Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001)

Set a few years after the partition, this movie is about Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) who crosses the border to reunite with his wife Sakeena (Ameesha Patel), who has been kept under house arrest by her father Ashraf Ali (Amrish Puri) to fulfill his political motives. The movie was a blockbuster success and is remembered for its heavy duty dialogues and action.

Khamosh Pani (2004)

If anyone has any doubts about the acting prowess of Kirron Kher, they should watch this movie. The movie is about a Sikh woman, left behind in Pakistan after the partition, where she gets married and converts to Islam. The movie won several international awards and acclaims after its 2004 release, and is probably the only film directed by a Pakistani (Sabiha Sumar) and starring Indian actors (Kirron Kher, Shilpa Shukla).
